What is Semi-Permanent Eyebrows Make-Up?
Both Nano Needle and Microblading procedures are methods of semi-permanent makeup used to enhance your eyebrows, both aim to give a very similar end result. The outcome can either fill in your natural brow or create a realistic looking brow using tiny hair strokes.
Microblading uses a manual tool which has 10-16 fine needles configured into a blade shape to impregnate pigment into the skin. Once the tiny cuts are made manually using a tool by hand (no machine is used like in tattooing), pigment is left on the skin to absorb in for a few minutes and then wiped away to reveal the tiny realistic hair strokes.
Nano Needle uses a traditional needle device which is very flexible and the size of a hair strand. The needle projects approximately 0.5 mm outside the cartridge, allowing an exact pressure to be applied and create super fine and precise hair strokes. The tip of the needle is immersed in pigment, it is then transferred from the needle into the skin.
Some people prefer Nano needle procedures to microblading and say it is easier to get a good result from Nano Needling as there is less trauma to the skin and it is virtually impossible to implant the pigment too deep, which is where many technicians go wrong with microblading.

Does it hurt?
Prior to treatment a topical anaesthetic is applied to the area being treated, there is usually a feeling of hot pin pricks during the procedure, this is normal, each client’s experience will vary.

Phibrows Microblading
Microblading is an alternative semi-permanent make up technique for eyebrows. Carried out using a specialist manual tool (not machine) the pigment is deposited into the skin very carefully allowing a more super fine crisp hair stroke effect to be achieved. Super fine hair strokes are achieved by inserting pigments closer to the skin surface, virtually no fading under the skin and a realistic effect created.
Nano Needle
Using a machine with a super fine needle, ultra-fine hair-like strokes are placed throughout the eyebrow, creating the appearance of hair growth.
Nano needling can also achieve a powdered colour mist appearance through the brows, by placing the hair strokes closer to one another allowing for a softer healed brow.
Results & what to expect after treatment
Following treatment, some clients may experience some minor, very manageable swelling, your skin will feel tight in the treated area.
As the skin starts to heal it will continue to feel tight, this is completely normal, the pigment in the skin will crust slightly and over the coming days will slough away to reveal a more muted and subtle version. Between 20-30% of the original colour will fade once completely healed, this is completely normal.
Eyebrow treatments are normally a 2-treatment process depending on the desired outcome and the skin reaction, a follow-up treatment can be carried out 6 weeks following the original appointment.
Preparation for treatment
- No fillers or Botox 3 weeks before or after the treatment
- Avoid UV exposure – natural sun or tanning beds for at least 2-4 weeks before treatment.
- No facial acid treatments (Retin A, Salicylic, Glycolic, Peels) for at least 2 weeks before or for 4 weeks following treatment.

Eyebrow Correctional Work
The positioning and placement of these eyebrows were too severe for this client making them look angry and too harsh. The pigment was placed too deeply making them turn a shade of blue/black. Correctional work was carried out to correct them as best as possible.
